2006 eclipse holiday in Side, Turkey

I’ve seen the eclipse of April the 29th in Side. It’s been my first time in Turkey, and the photo’s are here. And here are a few nice interviews (thanks sid)
On our first day, we flew from Rotterdam Airport to Antalya. Rotterdam Airport is extremly small compared to Shiphol (ofcourse) but even compared to an airport like the one on Chania, Krete. The arrivals and luggage section is nothing more than a wooden shed. Anyway, back in Antalya we went out until 5am. And after 15 minutes of sleep we got woken up again because of the ’singing’ from the minorettes of the nearby mosk. This is ment to point out that’s morning prayer time.
The next day, we slept until fairly late and rented ourselves a car. We drove East and ended up in Side, where the line of totaly enters Turkey from over the Mediterenian Sea. Side is a lovely, but a little touristic city. The most noteworthy antique structure is the Roman theater, which holds room for about 15.000 people.
Tuesday we took our car and drove North, into the mountains. We went to a little sleepy town there and had a dinner in a restaurant. The restaurant had no menu. They just showed us what was in the pans in the kitchen and we could choose from that. Great and simple food. I’ts been a good day.
The next day, wednesday, was eclipse day. I took some long movies of the eclipse itself, so those are definitely worth checking out. A word of warning tho, my camera unfortunately does not have the focus/separation/whatever to display the moon and corona sharply
The only picture that I have is the one you see on top of this post.
The rest of the holiday was spent on relaxing and getting back to Antalya.
