We measured a 247 gamma photons (>0.2MeV) in 15 minutes with a gammascout geiger counter in my home. Next time we have the thing here we will measure the background radiation multiple times, and outside too, to see if that makes any difference.

The Classical World

February 2, 2006 on 4:03 am | In .english | No Comments

The Western World is based upon the Romans who invented big empires, the Greeks who did science, and the Jews who invented monotheism.

The classical world is preceeded by the empires in the Middle-East and Mediteranian Sea, like Egypt. Before empire building (agriculture), the philosophical/spiritual issues where mostly handled by tribal beliefs.

The Greek and Roman literature (including Homer, Hesiod, and Herodotus) is online available on Perseus.

Christianity became important later in the Roman empire: the original Hebrew old estament and the Greek new Testament became combined in the Latin Vulgate.

The Roman empire dissolved, and the Dark Ages came and not much was written.

Muhammad (around 600) wrote the Arabic Quran.

The Dark Ages in Europe continued until, say, 1700, when the age of Enlightenment started. Immanuel Kant also lived around that time.

After that, things became… uhh… more civilized. :-P
